How to Treat Open Wound on a Pet
USING BASIC WOUND CARE WILL HELP YOUR PET HEAL FASTER
Using basic wound care is something you can do at home to help keep your pet from getting a serious infection. You can easily treat your pets minor wounds, cuts, tears, scratches, and punctures, IF THEY ARE MINOR.
* Use clean water and/or rubbing alcohol to clean the minor infection.
* Use clean wraps or bandages
* Change the dressings often
* Apply healing balm
The following TIPS indicate that the wound might be more serious and require a trip to the vet, or that there may be other injuries requiring immediate urgent care at a pet hospital. Use these first aid tips for wounds that are open and bleeding or for deep wounds and bites. If these symptoms exists, get your pet to a vet quickly. Time may be critical.
- If your pets wound is bleeding heavily
- If your pet has been hit by a vehicle.
- If your pet appears to have broken bones
- If your pets wound is hot and swollen (due to possible infection or deeply embedded debris).
- If your pets breathing is not normal, heavy breathing, or cannot stand or walk properly.
If any of these signs apply, do whatever you need to stabilize him for transport to the vet clinic ASAP.
